Comicpalooza 2022
Check out what we captured at Houston’s Comicpalooza 2022.
This past weekend, I headed to downtown Houston to join one of the largest pop culture events in Texas, taking place at the George R Brown Convention center. It’s been a few months since I held a camera in my hands, and even longer since I have been to an anime or comic convention. It was definitely about time I put my camera to use.
I thought about heading out on Friday night but besides the opening ceremony there wasn’t much that I wanted to do or see at the convention, so I decided to wait and join the convention first thing on Saturday morning. I arrived right at opening time and grabbed my weekend badge. The lines didn’t take long at all.
I entered the exhibit hall, where I would then spend most of my time for the rest of the day checking out vendors and snapping photos of cosplayers when I could. I did try to check out a few of the panels as well. At first, I liked that they were in the back of the exhibit hall: I wouldn’t have to worry about heading upstairs and then back down when the panel was done. After a few minutes, I quickly changed my mind. Unfortunately, the panels next to us were quite loud, making it pretty difficult to hear the panel I wanted to focus on. Afterward, I decided to skip any panels in the exhibit hall and focus on other parts of the convention.
I wrapped up the day by attending the cosplay contest, I love seeing all the creative costumes people do. Did your favorite cosplayer take home an award?
Sunday was pretty much the same, minus the cosplay contest. There was a brief moment when we had to leave temporarily due to the fire alarm, but other than that, I mostly hung out in the halls and the exhibit halls to check out all that I had missed on day one, and snap more photos of the cosplayers there that day.
I did wrap up the coverage for the car portion of the convention as I had only made it through about half on Saturday. I do plan to attend a few more local conventions this year, and maybe one out of town, so stay tuned for more coverage coming soon!
