Houston Coffee & Cars February 2018
Saturday, February 3rd marked the first Saturday of the month. Most of you knew that but for many of car enthusiast in the Houston area, this meant that it was time for Coffee & Cars at Memorial City Mall.
I woke up slightly earlier than usual to make it out to the event and get an early start on the coverage of the event. Usually, the gathering of supercars, classics, and other amazing rides that are on display can be found located in the center area just south of the food court. Well, in February the designated display area move over to the west side of the mall closer to The Square. If you are looking to grab some breakfast, don’t worry as Panera Bread is located right next to the new display area as well as a few other restaurants.
I actually liked the change, it gives this familiar venue a new look with a different backdrop for photos if you like capturing more of the environment in your shots. After finding a parking spot and grabbing my camera, I began my way around the parking lot capturing photos of the various rides that made it out here. It started off well, just a cool and cloudy morning with a good turn out. Later in the morning, there was a bit of rain for a small portion of the event but that didn’t stop me from shooting nor the people that were out here enjoying the event. For the most part, it was a few patches of light rain but for a brief few minutes it did pick up. It never reached anything crazy. I continued through the lot capturing whatever caught my eye and didn’t have a crowd obstructing my view. Some rides I did wait it out a bit or made a return trip in hopes for a window between the crowds to snag a photo.
Amongst the McLaren and a few other amazing rides, the featured ride that made it out on this cloudy day was the LaFerrari… which of course stole the show when it finally arrived. I stayed for a good portion of the event until I felt a majority of the rides started to leave. With the sketchy weather, the turnout was a bit smaller than usual but not as small as I would have expected. Coffee & Cars returns tomorrow morning, with clearer skies in the forecast so I expect a bigger turnout. you can check out the map here to see how the layout has changed. See you in the morning!
