Houston Coffee & Cars March 2018
It’s been a while since I have actually been back to Memorial City Mall, but I arrived early this time, before the start of Houston’s Coffee & Cars. I had decided to get up earlier than usual, hoping for a surge of ambition to possibly wash my ride, oh and to arrive early in hopes to get a decent spot as well. Well, I did get up early but I decided to pass on washing the Veloster and left semi-early in my other car (it’s the thought that counts, right?). Actually, I think this might be the first since they moved the event from Vintage Park that I have managed to arrive before the event’s starting time.
When I arrived, there were still a decent amount of spots left in the display area for cars that were still pouring in. I grabbed my camera and hung out by one of the entrances to the show, capturing photos of the various rides as they drove in. After the lot started to fill up more, I headed over to the show area to start my coverage capturing each ride, up close and personal so to speak. That didn’t last long though, after covering only a few rows I started focusing on the more heavily modified and unique cars that were there, as some appeared stock or had minor modifications only. There was a lot to cover and I’ve been doing this long enough to know, there’s never enough time to get all the shots I want, as many would leave early.
It was a beautiful cool morning, with an amazing turnout of vehicles and spectators. With such a huge turnout of spectators, some rides were completely blocked by crowds preventing me from snagging a decent photo. I tried loitering to see if there would be any breaks in the crowds, but even after standing conspicuously with my best “I’m important, get out of the way” attitude (note to self, great T-shirt idea!), it seemed clear there were too many spectators around and I ended up just moving along, skipping some rides where the crowds didn’t look like there were moving away anytime soon. On a few of the more impressive rides I had to skip because of those crowds, I did try to return for a second chance to capture a photo, and I’m happy to report some limited success in that department, just for the viewing pleasure of you, the reader, you’re welcome! 🙂
I continued to make my way through the display area of rides coming across many groups and teams that were out in force. After covering a majority of the main display area, I met up with a Saleen owner that requested a few extra photos. I have captured his beautiful ride at several events before, but his hood has always been open so he wanted some with it closed. After I took some various shots of the Saleen, I decided to head back to the main area with a different lens on my camera to capture more “creative” shots and not my standard three-quarters event coverage angle. By that time, many of the rides had already begun their departure. I hung out for a while longer, past the ending time for the event, before heading home for the day.
Coffee & Cars will return to Memorial City on April 7th from 8 am till 10 am, but there’s always some keeners that will arrive even earlier than that. I will see you there, but before we wrap up, which was your favorite ride from this month’s attendance? Oh, and also, can anyone swing by my place early, I’ve got a Veloster that could use a quick wash! 🙂
