Lamborghini Festival 2017
Once a year, the raging bulls come from all over the US to partake in the world’s largest Lamborghini gathering here in Houston, and it was time for them to gather once again this month. The Lamborghini Festival hosted by Scuderia Society takes place over three days at different venues; Friday starts the celebration with a kick-off event, Saturday continues the event with a track Day, and Sunday brings it to an end with the main event.
Sunday, October 15 was the final day for this year’s event, ended at the City Centre which has been the venue for the festival portion for the past several years. The main event is open to the general public free of charge, and the crowds of people coming is overwhelming. This year I attended with my family, and we arrived right at starting time. We didn’t have to search too long to find a parking spot, which was a bonus, as I was expecting trouble to find one given the popularity of this event. After I parked, I grabbed my gear and headed down to the plaza with my son to check out the gathering while waiting for the rest of my family to catch up.
We started on the north section of the plaza walking around checking out the Lamborghini’s and the other exotics that were parked on display. My son went snapping photos on his phone as I followed behind with my camera starting to get some coverage as well. Soon after that, I ran into my family as they walked around in awe of the beauties that were all around. After a while, my son and I ventured off to see the rest of the cars, but soon afterwards, the rest of the family found us again anyway.
The crowd in the central areas was staggering, so we skipped that area at first hoping it would die down later making it easier to take photos. I continued around the venue finishing my coverage before returning to the center with my attempt to take photos, taking lots of long pauses and waiting. Debbie a.k.a Batgirl returned once again with her Batventador and was located in the center which drew many smiles especially with the younger crowd as they took turns taking photos with her in costume along with the Lambo.
Once I was done, my son was getting a bit hungry so we regrouped with the family for a late lunch/early dinner break at Grub Burger. This place is one of my son’s favorite burger joints, and it’s pretty amazing.
Once we were done, we returned to the plaza as I continued taking photos for the rest of the duration. We were just in time for the unveiling of the Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, but not enough time to make my way up front to get a good shot as the covers came off. I ended up returning later in the evening to get some photos once the crowd faded away, but it had a few onlookers gathered around it for the entire duration.
While the number of rides on display was a lot smaller than usual, no doubt hurricane Harvey contributed to that, the event was still amazing. It’s great to see classic Lamborghinis on display amongst their modern counterparts. The event also doubles as a charity event, continuing its history of how this festival was started six years ago. Now the countdown for next year’s event starts. Which was your favorite Lamborghini there?
